Our relationship with Vatukarasa Village began not as a project, but as a shared human moment.​

In May 2025, during a family visit to Fiji for our daughter’s wedding, we met Danny — the warm, joyful entertainment lead at our accommodation. What began as a simple conversation quickly grew into something more meaningful, culminating in an invitation to share a meal with the family in Vatukarasa Village.

That evening, dinner was prepared by Danny’s cousin, Nathan — a cook of remarkable skill and care. As we talked, we learned that despite clear talent and dedication, Nathan was not working as a chef, simply due to the absence of formal qualifications. It was a quiet but powerful realisation: the ability was there, the commitment was there — but the opportunity was not.

Pacific Education did not yet exist, but in that moment, a seed was planted.

 

In January 2026, we returned to Vatukarasa in an official Pacific Education capacity. We were welcomed through a traditional Sevusevu, adorned with beautiful Salusalu, and greeted by village elders and the joyful songs of children. It was a humbling and deeply meaningful welcome.​

That visit marked our first delivery — school supplies for 102 primary school children — alongside open conversations and time spent listening, learning, and understanding what meaningful support looks like in a village context.

It is where trust was built, where our purpose was clarified, and where the Pacific Education journey will always be rooted.
