Vatukarasa Visit - June 26
Visit Overview
As part of our Fiji field visit, Pacific Education spent time in Vatukarasa Village to meet with community leaders, better understand local needs, and deliver educational support to local high school students.
We were warmly welcomed by Junior Vaula (Paul), the visit provided an opportunity to learn more about village life, discuss community priorities, and strengthen relationships for future projects.
Student Support
During the visit, education packs were distributed to local high school students. In keeping with Fijian custom, gifts are traditionally presented individually. As only a small number of students were present due to weekend school and village sporting commitments, the remaining packs were entrusted to village representatives for distribution.
Approximately fifty students from the village attend secondary schools including Sigatoka Methodist College, Aanhindra Sangam School, and Nadroga Navosa Secondary School.
Community Priorities
Through discussions with village leaders, several priority needs were identified, including improved pathway lighting, paved walkways between homes, additional sporting equipment, and support to improve household access to electricity.
Looking Ahead
The visit provided valuable insight into daily village life and reinforced the importance of working alongside local communities to develop practical, sustainable solutions. Pacific Education will use the information gathered to help guide future projects and ensure support is directed to the areas where it can make the greatest long-term impact.
