Lawai Visit - June 26
Visit Overview
As part of our community visits, Pacific Education travelled to Lawai Village to meet with village representatives and introduce the work of the charity. Unfortunately, due to delays, we arrived after the scheduled committee meeting had concluded.
Despite this, we were warmly welcomed by Melaia, who kindly took the time to meet with us and discuss the village.
Community Discussion
During the visit, Pacific Education presented a selection of library books and provided an overview of our educational and community support programmes. Melaia advised that she would share this information with the village committee and assist in determining how Pacific Education may be able to support the community in the future.
Community Overview
Lawai Village is located close to Sigatoka and appears to be comparatively well supported when compared with more remote communities in the region. The village benefits from employment and income generated through local clay-making activities, contributing to a stronger economic position than many rural villages.
Looking Ahead
Although the visit was shorter than planned, it established an important connection with the village and opened the door for future collaboration. Pacific Education looks forward to continuing discussions with the village committee to better understand community priorities and identify opportunities where support can make a meaningful difference.
