Tagaqe Visit - June 26

Visit Overview

Pacific Education visited Tagaqe District School to better understand the school's learning environment, meet with staff, and identify opportunities where future support could make a meaningful difference. During our visit, we met with School Manager and several members of the teaching staff, who shared valuable insights into the school's achievements, challenges, and priorities.

Tagaqe District School provides education from Kindergarten through to Year 8 and supports approximately 290 students. Despite being a rural school, it has built a strong reputation for academic success, with almost all Year 8 students progressing to secondary school each year.

School Highlights

The school is supported by a dedicated team of teachers who are passionate about helping their students succeed. Beyond the classroom, students actively participate in rugby, netball and athletics, with many earning selection to higher-level competitions.

Teachers also spoke proudly about the school's active scouting programme and the strong sense of community that exists within the school. While a small library is available for students, many of the books are outdated, and technology resources remain limited.

School Priorities

During our discussions, several key priorities were identified. These include additional classroom resources, library books, teacher materials, sporting equipment and improvements to ageing infrastructure.

Staff also identified the need for repairs to classroom windows, improved electrical infrastructure and better access to technical equipment.

Looking Ahead

Our visit highlighted both the strengths and resilience of Tagaqe District School and the challenges that come with operating in a rural community. Pacific Education will continue working alongside the school to better understand its priorities and identify practical, sustainable projects that improve the learning environment and support students for years to come.
